A 10-year-old boy accused of fatally shooting his mother for refusing to buy him a virtual reality headset has been charged as an adult and is facing 60 years in prison if convicted.
The controversial case in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, involves a child who, according to family members, has rage problems and hears the voices of imaginary people.
The boy is currently being held in juvenile detention and has not been publicly identified by police or prosecutors, but a complaint released by officials shows a litany of disturbing events.
On Nov 21, he was alleged to have shot his mother at close range after she refused to buy him a US$500 Oculus VR headset. He then used her credit card to buy one online.
Afterwards, he put the gun back in the cupboard and told his older sister that his mother, who worked in behavioural health, was dead.
