aiya old folk can use algebra method ofc easy.

but the primary students hv to use model method they'd learned which is even easier.
Helen = ivan same x of coins
Helen
x-64(0.50) + 64(0.20) = x-104(0.50) + 104(0.20)
0.50x-32 + 12.8 = 0.50x- 52 + 20.8
0.50x - 0.50x = 20.80 - 12.80
x = 8

Helen coin weigh 1.134kg
0.20cts coin = y g
0.50cts coin = 2.7 + y
so smart no wonder you can get Gov Covi19 money .....
Helen has more money by $12. Ivan's coins weigh 1.026kg.

It's easier done by drawing up models than equation.

Yes. Both has same number of coins every coin that is not the same the one with 50cts coin has 30cts more....30ctsx40 =$12.

I teach tuition at one time. Teaching students draw models.
Its called Singapore maths. In the end we don't produce enough STEM graudates nobody wants to do those courses because we don't instil interest in maths and science ..in the past there was no such peoblems. Today we heard many PLSE students cried after maths paper!.
We are have a bad system and think it is good.

Singapore maths is bad for ordinary students ..yet we think we are so smart to create this new way of teaching.

Here are reasons why we are getting such bad outcomes teaching Singapore's maths and later on students will avoid STEM and we end up importing people

1. Singapore maths is not maths but logic! There is a difference  Before algebra was invented long winded logical reasoning was used to solve problems.

2. By not teaching maths but puzzle solving. This miscue a large number who are good at maths and not puzzles. Causing them to feel untalented and lose interest

3. This type of "maths" does not progressed to higher levels where normal maths is taught  so all you learn you throw away

4. The outcome of this way of teaching is very bad. We are producing less and less STEM graduates as we lose the interest of our students and cause them to pursue something else

Singapore maths is a mistake. ...we look "clever" to give our students puzzles to solve but it is not maths and the outcome is very bad ..

All the students that top our engineering course inNUS and NTU are foreigners who learn "normal maths" when they were young. We are putting our student through this unproductive and ineffective teaching causing them to fall behind
Kids of elite find them easy.

I also find it interesting and easy once  younknow the trick but it is not maths but puzzle solving  some of my students are not good at this but they are good at real maths. This damage their confidence and I spend effort to fix this so they don't think they are bad at maths.

But the elites are so enthralled that we have this "innovative Singapore maths" they are blind to all the downstream! problems it causes.

They later contradict themselves because they like Foreign Talents so much who did not go through this "Singapore !maths" why?

Nail it like my job interview last year with my on page resume

Thanks to his PSLE genius father
You r son might not know what he dont know so walk out smiling thinking he scored ...later result might Tell another story
Why waste time with all these silly maths. The main priority is to find a job.
No wonder now we need foreign talents...decades ago our education subjects are like so simple. Any one can go into RI. Want or not only.

This question is from a parent?? Or from a lousy teacher??

Cos the grammer is wrong. “More heavier”??

"A mathematical model is a description of a system using mathematical concepts and language. The process of developing a mathematical model is termed mathematical modeling. Mathematical models are used in the natural sciences (such as physics, biology, earth science, chemistry) and engineering disciplines (such as computer science, electrical engineering), as well as in non-physical systems such as the social sciences (such as economics, psychology, sociology, political science). Mathematical models are also used in music,[1] linguistics,[2]philosophy (for example, intensively in analytic philosophy), and religion (for example, the recurring uses of the numbers 7, 12 & 40 in the Bible).

A model may help to explain a system and to study the effects of different components, and to make predictions about behavior."

that's maths modelling method, not Singapore maths.

as described by wiki, it has many uses not just solving puzzles. Algebra is great but not for many social science problems

its purpose is to train the students to visualise the problems and hence come out with logical solutions easily
