I want to say is you cannot look only from logical or moral point of view. You need to look from interest point of view too.
Russia Ukraine war is NOT about who is right or wrong or who is immoral etc. It is about the interest of Russia and sovereignty and national security. When come to big power play, smaller countries has to play along bigger power interest. At the least, don't be against...them openly.

The West are caught by their own doing. No one knows how to end the war simply Putin is no going to accept West's terms and if West can not show that they getting their terms, it means they have wasted all their efforts in fighting this war. Remember, if Ukraine doesn't get back every single inch of their land including Crimean, it means they have wasted all their efforts teaching Russian.

As UN chief, he always will stress peaceful negotiation and solution for world peace.
He is implying Zelensky thought he can win and therefore he didn't want to come to peace talk
