S'porean man, 47, jailed 12 weeks for smuggling 4 kittens in his pants
His elderly mother was also jailed for smuggling cats in a separate incident.

A pair of mother and son were charged for smuggling kittens into Singapore from Malaysia on July 23.

In separate instances, they were by Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officers at the Tuas checkpoint.



According to CNA, the 72-year-old woman Leong Sok Boy will be jailed for 40 days for smuggling cats in 2018.

Seven cats were found in the car. One was kept in a handbag, while six others were found in a canvas bag in the rear of the car, CNA reported.

They did not declare the animals even though Leong later claimed that they were her pets.


In 2019, her son, 47-year-old Justin Ng Chin Boon, was caught smuggling kittens.

At Tuas checkpoint, ICA officers heard meowing sounds from his car and noticed that his pants looked "bulky" around the crotch area, which prompted further checks on their part.

Four kittens were found eventually.


Ng will be jailed for 12 weeks for subjecting the animals to unnecessary suffering and importing live animals without license.

In both instances, a family friend named Leow Hua Liang was the driver.

According to CNA, Leow's case is still pending.


Under the Animals and Birds Act, those found guilty of importing any animals or live birds into Singapore without a licence are liable to a S$10,000 fine, imprisonment for up to a year, or both.
