Investigative reporter Seymour Hersh has found out that the US, with Norway's support, is responsible for the Nord Stream pipeline explosion. Now both the White House and the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs are reacting - and speak of an "invention".
"This is completely false and a complete fabrication," US National Security Council spokeswoman Adrienne Watson said on Wednesday. A spokesman for the CIA told AFP: "This claim is completely and utterly false."
Hersh previously reported that US Navy divers used Norway to plant explosives on gas pipelines last June in a White House-ordered and CIA-planned covert operation. The explosive devices were then remotely detonated in September.
President Joe Biden wanted to prevent Russia from continuing to earn billions from the export of natural gas, writes the winner of the renowned Pulitzer Prize. The US also saw the pipelines as a Kremlin means of exerting pressure on Germany and Western Europe, which could weaken Western support for Ukraine. The idea of destroying the pipelines is said to have arisen in December 2021.
