What I can tell you is today's children are at greater risk then before when parents fail in their role to protect them in this Internet age.
Banning TikTok is just an excuse...when their are many alternatives.

Maybe my son is still young only 12yo, I gave him a device when he entered primary school. Told him it was for his research he ended up playing game. So I told him I will trash the device and the TV is next. He handed me the device thinking I will not trash it, I slammed it on the floor the next second. He cried painfully of course.
Later on I bought him another device and when he was primary 5 I even gave him a phone. Naturally he plays a lot of games and watch Jap anime where lots of kinky shit exist. So I talked to him about the law and my principle very simple. I will never step foot into police station or court. So if he breaks the law he bears the consequences. I also restrict the usage of devices and phone to weekend.
I think it's putting back the nous to one self. Of course when he is outside, he still plays games or watches anime. He watches a lot more YouTube shorts and clips than anything on devices and TV. But better than other ills I guess.
Condition the kid to take up his own responsibilities. At least my son handles his own studies since primary 3. My simple principle? I do not want the teacher to classdojo or call me, so he handles his own role as a student learner. He is only borrowing (doesn't matter whether he pays back but more importantly he can afford himself in the future) time and resources from me.
Cheers to parenthood.
