At that juncture of time, Pinky did not know the gravity of the covid disease, and remarked that SARS is more  deadly than Covid-19.  But SARS are only with us for a brief 5 months, whereas this covid illness are with us for over 2 years. In retrospect if Pinky were to know that covid-19 is so disruptive he will not make that remark.... Laughing

I can't stop laughing at ST News, "Manpower Minister Tan See Leng had given his assurance then to migrant workers, whom he called "brothers", that they would receive appropriate medical care".

What is the point of callimg them brothers when they were never treated with respect?

A scene of chaos and neglect has emerged at a newly built foreign worker dormitory in Jurong, with residents alleging poor living conditions and a lack of timely access to medical help for Covid-19.

Photos and videos of the situation at the Westlite Jalan Tukang dorm in Jurong have been uploaded on multiple online platforms since Tuesday (Oct 12), with workers voicing their frustrations with how they are being treated.

The situation reached a tipping point on Wednesday (Oct 13), when residents gathered en masse to confront the dormitory's management. Armoured riot police were later called in.

Many of the workers living in the dorm are believed to be employed by Sembcorp Marine.

ST understands that the dorm residents are of different nationalities, but had banded together to voice their frustrations.

Aside from a lack of timely medical support, they also claimed poor living conditions, and that they were given food that had worms or had gone bad.

Some of the workers had threatened to quit and return to their homelands because they were frustrated with how they were being treated.

Mr Ren said he has since resigned and just wants to go home.

ST has contacted MOM, Sembcorp Marine and Centurion for further comment.

You are right in saying that there is no point calling the FWs as brothers, when they are so badly treated.... crying

The dormitory has a capacity of 3,400 beds, of which 40 per cent - about 1,400 beds - are occupied by SembCorp Marine workers, said Centurion on Thursday.

"Over the past week, there has been a spike in cases detected among SembCorp Marine workers. Due to the large numbers, there have been delays in conveyance to recovery facilities and healthcare facilities," said the operator.

Centurion also responded to claims about the poor quality of food catered for workers at the dormitory.

"Catered meals for SembCorp Marine workers staying in Westlite Jalan Tukang are provided and managed by SembCorp Marine," said the operator.

"We understand the company has listened to feedback from their workers, has made adjustments and will continuously improve their catering provider's service and food quality."
