Full Version: Canada deploys military aircraft in Japan to implement sanctions on North Korea

The Canadian government said the aircraft would monitor, for about six weeks, maritime activities to evade suspected sanctions, in particular ship-to-ship transfers of fuel and other goods prohibited by the Security Council.

North Korea has been under UN sanctions since 2006 over its nuclear and missile programmes.

Over the past several years, the Security Council has been divided on how to deal with Pyongyang. Russia and China, which have veto power along with the United States, Britain and France, have said more sanctions would not help.
