Container houses are super impractical. The insulation is poor and the metal rusts like crazy. These can be mitigated but with the extra cost, you might as well build a regular house with greater lifespan and resale value.
Over here the problem is with the land
For minimum interior and exterior space at the lowest land costs, $500x1000 = 500,000, might as well buy an old house

NZ has limited land because it has large areas of mountains that nobody lives there

In a developed land in a neighbourhood all the pipes and  road are already in place, so you dunt have to worry.

At a rural area, must have electricity cables near by and sewerage pipe and potable water pipes in the vicinity, will also need to have TV cables and internet connections, so in rural areas all these are not in place................... Big Grin

This piece of remnant land costs 3m, can be shared by 10 container houses, each pays $300,000. Plus all misc about $400,000 each. Worth it?

If they can afford proper houses (NZ 1 million+), why must stay in container homes?

That is a good question, also container homes are priced at $400,000 each not cheap............ Big Grin

Average homes (landed) in NZ costs 980k…that is why many can’t afford but buying container homes.

I met a New Zealander on a flight from Australia to Spore. He told me he sold his house in Auckland for 1 million plus and now lives in a farmland 3 hours drive from Auckland. NZ property price has dropped from 1 million plus to $960k.

Most likely the owners will stack the containers into 3 or more tiers. So at least 30 container houses on that piece of land..... Big Grin

How big is the vacant land? 3 million is too expensive unless it is in the city centre.

A vacant land  of 500sqm in Australia costs 400k+. 15 years ago I bought a piece of land of 630sqm, cost 160k only.

Land size 6000+ sf. If can stack up to 3 storeys, each will be reduced to 100k. Still not cheap

More profitable to build a bungalow, or 2 semi, or 2 corners plus an intermediate
