What's interesting is that China such a big and vast land is still going for zero covid strategy while the rest of the world has largely given up (even NZ) and gone for living with covid.
Does the Chinese know something about the covid more than we know?

it is too early to be in endemic status.
we are going too fast and we should slow down and handle the infection efficiently than chiong to open up.
Look at those countries.......
China is just playing to its strength, which is effective state control. It also doesn't need tourists or foreign talent, so it can afford to close its border indefinitely, as long as other countries are importing its products. Hence Covid-zero makes sense there but most other countries can't do that.
China with over 1b population can remained closed forever. They can survive.

Going by this train of thought actually big countries such as USA should likewise go for zero covid strategy. Cos it helps with the make USA great again. May not be a bad move for Biden. Just that the tourism biz may take a hit but then again their own population and internal consumption is big enough to sustain. Also USA can continue to operate trade etc.

I think China's strategy is zero covid to buy time for one or two years while they research to find the "cure" for this virus attack. They can afford this strategy as they are self sufficient........

Yup, maybe I just think too much about why they decided to stick to zero covid strategy. Agreed that they can afford to stay closed - they did so for extensive decades earlier and since majority of the population is still very much serving the local market to large extend other than their goods for exports.
