Correct, it is a ceremonial post which is totally a no brainer job. No need to waste time analysing and arguing on the candidates' capability or what he can do for you. This position got no executive power and cannot do anything for you.

I stated before the last PE that Tharman is too politically aligned with the ruling party to ever question them.  Why would this President risk his $1.54 million annual salary to speak up for the man-in-the-street S'porean?
