China will ban the export of gallium and germanium, two components for chips and radars, in a bid to respond to the U.S.'s curb on supplies of high-tech components to China, the Ministry of Commerce said in a statement released Monday.
The ministry will impose export controls on gallium and germanium-related items in order to safeguard national security and interests, the statement said.
Exporters shall apply for an export license to the Ministry of Commerce and report the contract and utility before shipping out the related item, it said.
The export control took effect on August 1.

Although it’s been more than a year, the war in Ukraine is still impacting both laser and semiconductor manufacturing in unexpected ways. The market for specialty gases will eventually rebalance and prices, hopefully, will return to normal. Until then, manufacturers will be spending more time and money to secure their supply chain.
Tech counter likely to see bloodshed soon.

Noble gases can be obtained from air as long as you have the facilities. Not too difficult.
Gallium and germanium can only come from the mines!

It's time to take action.
No more talks with blinken or Biden.
Both are rotten.
Good to see them fight back and forth eventually we will see who has the real economic strength.

China exported 94 metric tons of gallium in 2022, up 25 per cent from the prior year, according to Chinese customs.
US imports of gallium metal and gallium arsenide (GaAs) wafers in 2022 were worth about US$3 million and US$200 million, respectively, according to USGS.

Chinese military analysts said that the export controls, particularly those on gallium, could hit the US defense industry at a time when the US is attempting to militarily contain China’s development.
Gallium arsenide (GaAs) and gallium nitride (GaN) are the most basic materials in the making of the transmit receive modules on active electronic scanning array (AESA) radars, which are widely used on modern warplanes, warships and ground installations, Fu Qianshao, a Chinese military aviation expert, told the Global Times on Tuesday.
For example, US’ defense companies Raytheon and Northrop Grumman are reportedly introducing new AESA radar systems based on GaN, which provide superior performance than previously used GaAs. The latest radars for the F/A-18E/F carrier-based fighter jet and the F-35 stealth fighter jet also incorporate GaN.
Both GaN and GaAs are included on China’s list of export controls.
