Quote:I have a personal experience of being threatened with a defamation suit. This occurred about 15 years ago and involved a land banking company. I had republished in my blog an article that appeared in a British newspaper which described the activities of the company in cheating the investors in Singapore.
I too exposed this company .several years ago and recently they file for bankruptcy

The problem with the defamation laws in Singapore is it has been modified to make it easy for ruling party to destroy opponents.
This suppresses people like whistle blowers holding information that can lead to discovery of wrong doing because they fear rich and powerful people going after and destroying them.
The law can be abused.
If you recall Durai case he won a defamation lawsuit against a whistle-blower but he was later exposed...it shows the law is not a good one and can be used by wrongdoers to silence others.
I am.glad LHY stood his ground.
Who is as stupid as Jac LAU??
That is why we must know the process, the system and the actions
Otherwise, base on CPIB said we are the Least Corrupt Countries?
Or hearsay from PAP that FTs really create jobs for Born- Citizens??
Or blindly follow PAP telling us to go for Skills Future to get a job???

People who want to sue for defamation should be made to put up a bond of maybe $250k. Then use a trial by jury for such cases. If lose the case, forfeit the bond. This will deter the pursuit of trivial cases and waste of the court's time.
