While some Singaporeans have a good impression of him resulting from his calm and steady demeanour and highly articulate speech,  I have a very different view of the man.


The lack of independence alone is enough for people not to vote for him. .and they shouldn't.

For people here in market talk many are investors and there are specific reasons for us not to support him.

To me Tharman all along was overrated for the following reasons

1. Being in Minstry in charge of the sgx he failed to prevent listing of fraudulent companies like s chips, oil exploration stocks and failed to tighten regulation.

2. Lehman minibinds happened under his watch when banks engaged in selling products disallowed in other countries. Why did MAS allow it?

3. He refuse to implement important parts of the Sarbines  Oxley Act to prevent fraud and improve accountability of listed companies ....all major developed countries adopted this like Japan and US and the level of fraud is a tiny fraction of Singapore we have a small stock exchange but many fraud and bankruptcy cases.

4. Failure to revamp CPFIS scheme to give retirement accounts to low cost products instead of UT.

What has Tharman done in his 20yrs to improve the investment environment in Singapore as Finance minister and when he headed MAS.

Yes true. I go with u. Vote Tan KL. This botak too soft. But Jurong people said he hardworking. Got go around weekend to the market n food Center to ask resident whether they got problem. Tat why his election vote is vy high.

I do not like Tharman at all

He and Tan CJ said will work on the excess foreigners occupying the banking jobs in 2013/14

At the end, it is just converting FTs to be PRs

and group under Singaporeans for reporting!

I have to see Goh got qualify or not. GREEDY PAP got upperhand they set the rules etc .

I might think they approve all , Goh, TKL , Ng thus Tharman have more chances I highly doubt PAP will disapprove Goh, Ng , TKL partly is too obvious although Tharman already has upperhand due to PAP backup.

Another case is , PAP ONLY Approve his another own people Ng former GIC TS people

Tharman still supports Ivan Lim and put him in Jurong GRC. This means these political elites like to support the elites with a condescending attitude, how to vote for him?

It appears that Mr Lim remains a part of Mr Tharman's group of volunteers for Jurong GRC

SINGAPORE: Former People’s Action Party (PAP) prospective candidate Ivan Lim was recently spotted alongside Senior Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam at an outreach activity, sparking rumours that he may contest the next election despite the public backlash that saw him get dropped by the ruling party mere days after he was introduced.


Mr Lim was introduced as a member of Mr Tharman’s team contesting Jurong Group Representation Constituency (GRC) ahead of the 2020 general election and was expected to coast into Parliament, as Mr Tharman typically receives the best result across all wards no matter who is in his team.

But just four days after his introduction, Mr Lim was withdrawn as a candidate after public members raised allegations of his past conduct online, sparking a significant public outcry over the PAP’s candidate selection process.

The allegations against Mr Lim were mainly centred around his behaviour and management style during his time as a senior executive in Keppel Offshore and Marine.

Several online comments from anonymous individuals alleged that Mr Lim was arrogant, elitist, and tended to belittle subordinates. Some also accused him of being unable to relate well with ordinary Singaporeans.



He added, “I felt it was right, and hope you understand my approach on such matters.”

It appears that Mr Lim remains a part of Mr Tharman’s group of volunteers for Jurong GRC. He was spotted beside the Minister at a community outreach activity organised by the ruling party MPs, in photos posted online by his replacement Mr Xie.

The photos have triggered speculation that Mr Lim may return as a part of the team for Jurong GRC at the next election, which may take place as early as mid-2024.

Lidat I'm voting Tharman bcos I like to give chance. Last time he new to the job, dunno how to be pro-active in protecting old hundred surnames interest. Now gain more experience and hindsight, I think he will make a better President dan the other tycoons bcos he know how garbagemen and politics work. Plus I like his laubu who looks beri much on the ball. So we are getting 2 for 1 deal if he bcomes Pres.
