A good system can survive a bad president provuded they have check and balance

The important things to ask:

1. If the leadership slide back into corruption, are there institutions to remove him from power.?

Indonesia is now termed as stable democracy something of an achievement for a majority Muslim state.

They should evolve a system in which power can move from one leader to another democratically and good policies drive the country forward regardless of who is in power.

He was known to be a violent man and was a key suspect in the May 1998 unrest in Indonesia where Chinese communities were targeted and attacked. He was then the Commander of KONSTRAD, the commando division of the Indonesian Armed Forces where he was quietly removed after the unrest. Here is what AI says.... Rolleyes

There are allegations that General Prabowo Subianto was involved in the May 1998 unrest in Indonesia. He was accused of orchestrating the kidnapping and torture of activists ahead of anti-government demonstrations in 1998 when he was an army commander. According to an article from SINDOnews Daerah, Prabowo Subianto was a key figure in several important events that occurred in 1998. Starting from the shooting of Trisakti students on May 12, 1998, mass riots on May 13-15, 1998, kidnapping of activists, to the deployment of troops on May 22, 1998.
