With so many issues facing the ruling party, I think they will disqualify George Goh from running.  Actually you don’t need a sharp and analytical mind of an economist to play the role of President.  Even HC denigrated its role.  Score own goal. 

And the President needs to follow the advice of the President’s advisory body.  So don’t need someone of Tharman’s stature.
