I read before that the reason for the many wives is born out of practicality than sexual needs. Cos in the old days, men died easily, either in war or at work, and so the widows need people to continue to take care of them.

Polygyny has been permissible for thousands of years before our prophet. Many of the previous prophets before him had many wives. But when our prophet came, the rule for polygynous marriage became more stringent, but still allowed albeit for some men only. Most Muslim men only have 1 wife because they cannot afford more than 1 and even if they can afford it, many don't want to because of the responsibilities, or a jealous wife.
Again, the polygyny rule enshrined in the Shariah is to protect the women. Cannot suka suka take a woman and then dump her afterward. She rugi.

While that is one benefit of multiple wives, that is not the reason why it is allowed in Islam.
Some men like wealth; allowed but must pay zakat.
Some men like women; allowed but must marry her.
I like the latter, and then the former.

Yes! There is God. When I was young abt 5 or6 years old, I woke up in the middle of the night or before dawn crying. My Mom came to me wondering what happened. I told my mom there were people up there pointing to the window top overlooking the roof-less kitchen. My mom say there was nobody on the roof outside the window. I kept pointing to the top of the window and insists there were a group of people including a woman gathering on a long table. They seem to be having a feast of sort. As I grew up it dawn upon me that I could have witnessed the last supper that Jesus had with his apostles. Only my mom and siblings know abt this. I have told no ones except once in this forum or old sgtalk forum.

In ancient times, there is nothing much for the people to do to keep themselves occupied. No TV to watch, no electricity, no computer games etc. What else can they do other than enjoying sex with multiple partners and finding work in fishing (preaching). Perhaps that was how multiple marriages have come to be acceptable in Islam as the prophets themselves had many.

I went to do a search on the internet, and what I've read was correct. Polygamy was allowed to support the women and children whose husbands and fathers have died.

So your opinion it is better for men to have 4 wives openly than to have 1 kept mistress. The four wives doesn't mind sharing their husband. They are very happy.
