The rise in global inflation may cause a new round of local imported inflation – a general and sustained price hike trend due to an increase in costs of imported products – , since Macau heavily relies on imports for all kinds of commodities, the report stated.
In addition, the report said Macau, as a small and open economy, must pay close attention to changes in global capital flows and interest rates to avoid any potential risk.
On March 17, the US Federal Reserve announced an interest rate hike of 25 basis points (0.25 per cent).
The Macau Monetary Authority (AMCM) yesterday (Thursday) and raised the base interest rate by 25 basis points to 0.75 per cent, following in the footsteps of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority’s move
