The article writes as though it was about Burmese workers in Thailand, but I think it applies to Burmese working anywhere in the world, including Singapore.
The risen rent costs in Singapore have forced employers to increase the housing allowance paid to workers from Myanmar (as well as all other countries that are poor like Malaysia, the Philippines, and Vietnam). Housing allowance is a payroll cost in the Profit and Loss Account eh!
According to Multiversal, we may soon have to increase their salaries such that after remitting 25% to their government, their effective salaries are the same as before, in order to retain workers from Myanmar.
For Singapore businesses, it means yet another increase in running costs, which will only become an increase in prices for consumers. A lot of Burnes are working in the healthcare, food and beverage, and cleaning sectors.
You can eat out less often if you think food prices are too high, or eat at cheap hawker centres instead of restaurants. But for healthcare, you don't have that choice to go to a cheap inferior clinic that pays peanuts to its healthcare staff from Myanmar. The healthcare staff will cost more to hire, and you are going to have to pay more. Mai everything also brame PAP hor.

This is why my Myanmar friends said, we are damned lucky to have PAP....Covid payouts, the GST Rebates, USave, Cost of Living payouts...in Myanmar, they get ZILCH!

Not all are here to work as maids. Many work in professional jobs. If you know where they are (and I know), you will say Oh! they stole our jobs! these are jobs which Singaporeans also want to do! Same as ceca! ceca! CECA!
The truth is that we just don't have enough locals for so many PMET jobs. The situation is really that bad, yet so many of you are not aware of it, and those oppies who are aware of this would not bother to educate those who aren't because if they do, then Pritam Leong will lose votes...so what for? If they don't know and end up voting for the oppies, let them remain in their ignorance. Right.

Open a bank account there, 25% of your salary and pay in 1 or 3 months. Sign documents there. Don't sign; cannot go out. Household details have already been picked up. The exchange rate is greatly different from the market rate. No payment likely passport cannot be renewed.
It sounds similar to last time long ago. Some people change passports every time.

The Myanmar junta is really a bunch of bastards. The migrant workers are mostly low earners. By remitting 25pct of their wages at an official exchange rate that is nearly 50pct poorer than the real rate, the workers are effectively losing 10pct of their wages.

After understanding, follow what their government states. It cannot be wrong. 25% of the salary is remitted to their bank account in Myanmar. They lose on the exchange rate. Just treat this different in exchange amount as a tax paid to the government.
Their considerate government helps them to save money compulsorily. This money can be used to buy a house.
Most likely, they cannot ask another person in Myanmar to put the money in the bank account in their local currency.

Upon return maybe that person cannot come back unless bank proven remitted 25% earning to govt. (I think only)
