This is a tit for tat move in retaliation against China banning all social media apps owned by US companies ...apps such as YouTube, Twitter (now X), Facebook are blocked or banned by Chinese govt. Hence US has taken action to ban China's popular short form video app TikTok

Estimated around 14000 Americans make a living on TikTok...
Don't think really matter much as the number is small.
The users of TikTok are many but they can just switch to YouTube shorts or Instagram...so they are not going to bother.
