It appears that ageism and not economic restructuring is responsible for the increase in redundancy and the difficulties faced by older S'poreans trying to re-enter the workforce. However, our govt continues to blame economic restructuring, which refers to the urban areas shifting from a manufacturing to a service sector economic base, for PMETs accounting for most of the retrenchments.

Our Govt is the worst in the world blaming everything except themselves which causes more unhappiness amongst locals. Economic restructuring does not mean that every company is changing nor all the jobs affected.

Because they do not have any better idea for FT #1 POLICY.

I remember President Tharman making a call 4 years ago for employers in the privatesector to change their mindsets on the hiring and management of mature workers is timely. Unfortunately, the public service, despite being the largest employer in S'pore with 146,000 officers in 16 ministries and more than 50 statutory boards, is not taking the lead in hiring older workers. The call by the Govt for businesses to hire older S'poreans sounds hollow.

when they themselves reluctant to step down for being old and useless so they can happily be earning millions as the world's highest paid ministers
even they have stepped down, they will definitely create new position for themselves again and yet taking millions for themselves at the expense of citizens
this is singapap when they have the best of both worlds while you toil unto weariness
