The airline is adopting a more cautious approach to turbulence, including not serving hot drinks or meals when the seat belt sign is on, it said in a statement to Singapore broadcaster Channel News Asia.

According to the passengers, they were having breakfast when turbulence suddenly happened and there was no announcement from the pilots about the turbulence and asking them to fasten the seatbelt, the seatbelt sign was not on…possibly the pilots were shocked and struggling to bring the plane back to control, at least the stewardesses should have asked passengers to fasten seatbelts and calmed people down.

The thing is seatbelt sign was not on in SQ321

RE: Singapore Air tweaks seatbelt sign policy, alters route after turbulence incident - theold - 24-05-2024

Some say the seat belt sign comes on. No announcement.  The pilot goes on the ascending which seems to be the right way to go. When the shaking continues for some time, the pilot will think of ways to get out.

The new approach is just wayang…the turbulence happened so sudden, pilots failed to ask passengers to return to the seats and fasten seat belts, the seat belt warning lights were not on…passengers were not informed what was going on through out. It doesn’t matter if they serve meals or drinks or not, the injuries were not caused by that. SIA management must investigate why the pilots never turned on seatbelt lights and giving warning at that time, were they sleeping or what?

Many years ago seconds after captain of Air France stepped out cockpit to go toilet above Brazil, the co-pilot failed to control the plane causing a crash in the Atlantic Ocean.

Actually when they serve meals most of the passengers will sit on their seats rather than walking around…but air stewardesses are in danger.

In the Indonesian plane, the pilot got permission to sleep. The co-pilot took over the control. He also fell asleep. In the end, the plane landed safely.

Quite a few passengers complain there was no warning from the pilots throughout the event, seatbelt signs were not on…likely because the pilots were struggling to control the flight

If I no wrong all along ang mo airlines no serve meals when seatbelt sign is on , how come SIA different SOP. Now dan catch up.

Most important thing iz to come up with safety system to avoid or fly around air pockets.

SQ also follows the same SOP, the thing is the turbulence happened so suddenly that pilots never had a chance to turn on seatbelt signs and air stewardesses were still serving foods as there was no warning from the captain …that was why many passengers complained there was no announcement and seatbelt sign was not on.

According to the SOP, meal serving will be suspended if seatbelt sign is on, air stewardesses were still serving meals, which means the seatbelt sign was not on, obviously pilots forgot to turn on the sign, as a result many passengers got injured and some of the stewardesses and stewards had blood on their faces, one of them (a Msian steward) went for a spinal surgery.

Therefore the new approach of stopping serving meals during turbulence is useless as it is the standard practice just that SIA has to question the pilots why they never made announcement and turned on seatbelt sign before and during the turbulence.

must kiap the lan jiao on to the seat

so no body and no one will walk around

My experience is during turbulence. Sia would stop serving hot drinks. If more serious turbulence then Serving would be suspended and stewardess would sit down and belted.

However this was not the case for SQ321.

If there is jerking, there should not be any serving.
And if there are two co pilots, no reason not to give alert to rest of the crew.

Most Safest :

Meals will only be served when aeroplane is on the ground not in the air

Maybe SIA can introduce something new

All SIA passengers must wear.like those space astronauts for safety reasons.

Or introduce bubble wraps

RE: Singapore Air tweaks seatbelt sign policy, alters route after turbulence incident - theold - 25-05-2024

One of the passengers, Josh Silverstone, told Sky News that there was an alert for the seatbelts to come on and then there was a "huge bang".
