Boeing's Starliner can stay in space beyond 45-day limit, NASA Says Newsews. Ground testing on Starliner's thruster system could start as soon as today (July 2). Boeing's Starliner capsule is performing well on first-ever astronaut mission will likely be able to stay in orbit beyond initially envisioned 45-day limit, NASA says. Boeing's Starliner space capsule docked at International Space Station. Starliner, which launched on June 5, is docked at the International Space Station (ISS) on an indefinite mission extension.

Spacecraft is in good shape rated to leave ISS in case of emergency, both NASA & Boeing trying to understand why some of Starliner's control system (RCS) thrusters experienced issues in the leadup to docking with ISS on June 6, why several helium leaks have sprung up in capsule. (As such, Starliner will stay in space till least later in summer as testing analyses continue, eg, new round of thruster tests on ground will begin soon, perhaps as early as today (July 2).

Testing June 15 in orbit unable to find the root cause of issues, although agency officials stressed Friday (June 28) progress has been made: helium leaks stabilized, all but 1 of the errant thrusters is rated for use to come back to Earth. (Starliner has 28 thrusters altogether in its RCS; 5 were misbehaving, & those 5, only one will be taken offline during undocking).

Very hard to walk, sleep, eat and go toilet on the ISS as there’s no gravity. Later when they return to earth they won’t be able to walk.
