Experts say SMRT breakdown is due to poor maintenance - forum456 - 27-09-2024

"Just like cars, (trains) have axle boxes; it’s very rare for (them) to drop. It’s very unfortunate and a very rare case,” said electrical engineering expert Teo Chor Kok.

Mr Teo said this was the first time he had heard of an axle box dropping off after becoming dislodged. Routine inspections of the train would have included the undercarriage area and the axle boxes, he added.

The axle box, which houses the bearings that allow the train's wheels to rotate smoothly, is designed for heavy-duty use, said another expert.

"Under normal circumstances, the axle box, bogie (an undercarriage with wheels) and train wheels do not come off from the train," said Mr Jumadi Husani, the chief specialist for rail operations at Dubai's Roads & Transport Authority.

If it does happen, it is mainly due to improper installation of parts after maintenance or testing activities or if defective components like damaged bolts or screws are not replaced, Mr Jumadi said.

Since when do we have a transport minister who has a degree in transport infrastructure or mechanical engineering?

All we had were ball licking, money sucking mediocre good for nothing multitasking part time ministers.

The CEO must go.

Govt wants a car lite society and if they want that, the top notch performance of public transportation is non-negotiable.

the icident is 'rare' becos no maintenance team in the world will allow the axle box from falling down due to 'poor ' maintenance
the box must have been roting for quite a while until all the screws holding it fell apart...

Technology deficiency as well as management / supervision weakness contribute to this incident.
As usual there will be a committee to probe the case.

I think after the boss said not to over maintain, all started to relax!  Laughing

BTW, 35 yrs old Kawasaki train was still used!

Amazing!

Are they not having enough money to buy new ones?

And yet, the PnP limit the life of cars to 10 years and if you want to keep the car more than 10 years, you have to pay for the COE again.

Why double standards?

Prevention is better than cure. Do your regular exercise so that screws do not fall off.

There is replacement of mechanical components after 2011 incidents.

But as some issues after signal upgrade in late 2010s. It takes a while to integrate the system properly.

Thus the delay for full replacement for EW line trains. Most trains are partially upgraded.

.... first section from Yio Chu Kang to Toa Payoh commencing operation on 7 November 1987.

That Kawasaki is the "pioneer" lor!  Rotfl

It is important to replace such an old train and not wait until disaster like this happens!

Hope those ic in LTA and SMRT wake up to this fact after this incident!

Last time they woke up only after the wooden slippers became so rotten that they had to resort to using plastic fasteners and resulted in more problems! Eventually, Ah Cow got to come in to put things back on track.

Why the government allows SMRT to use train that is 35 years old? Motorists have to scrap their cars after 10 years. Fucking double standards.😡

RE: Experts say SMRT breakdown is due to poor maintenance - p1acebo - 28-09-2024

Age should NOT be an excuse. If the train is not track worthy, it should not be allowed on the tracks. As simple as that Smile

All started by Ms Saw, former CEO

Ex CEO Ms Saw was a DFS sales girl and only knows how to build shops and set-up hawker stalls.

SMRT admitted that Ms Saw knows nothing about running an underground metro systems..

SMRT tracks " Damaged Cables " were wrapped with masking tape and 2 newly employed employees monitored by senior engineer died inspecting the tracks

Today, many commuters saw and witnessed ex CEO Ms Saw driving her Ferrari along Orchard Road.

RE: Experts say SMRT breakdown is due to poor maintenance - Scythian - 28-09-2024

Keep on increasing fares and continuously taking money from commuters and taxpayers without proper maintenance and servicing of our national underground metro systems is unacceptable. - total failures

No excuse
