In 2013, Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula released its English-language magazine Inspire with a ‘wanted poster’ encouraging Jihadists to kill 11 people - including the editor-in-chief of French satirical comic, Charlie Hebdo. It resulted in the bloodiest terrorist attack in France in decades. The Islamic leadership in S'pore must combat deviant versions of Jihad by expounding on mainstream interpretations, which include a believer's internal struggle to live out the Muslim faith as well as possible, the struggle to build a good Muslim society, the struggle to defend Islam or the internal spiritual struggle – all of which are accepted by many in the Muslim community.
