In the likelihood that undocumented Filipinos are forced to return to the country, it will trigger a tsunami of social and economic problems for us.
First, the country is not prepared to absorb half a million people. As it is, we don't even have adequate health, education and social welfare infrastructures for all the people who are here.
Second, the government has no sense of urgency to set up reception facilities in airports in the event of their mass arrival.
Since we have not allocated funds for this in the 2025 national budget, we still must source out new resources for this possibility.
Finally, we are uncertain how mass arrivals of outbound Filipinos can affect the political and social tensions in the country today.
