from 1 July 2025, a new rule in Singapore will prohibit bicycles and non-motorised personal mobility devices (e.g. kick scooters) from riding on Pedestrian‑Only Paths, which are footpaths that run next to cycling paths. Here's what you should know:
Enforcement & Penalties
[*]Starting 1 July 2025, enforcement begins:
- Fines of up to S$2,000
- Or up to 3 months' jail, or both, for first-time offenders
[*]There’s some discretion: briefly crossing onto the pedestrian path to avoid obstacles may be tolerated
How to Recognize One
They will be clearly marked with:
- Painted pedestrian logos
- Words like “Pedestrians Only”
- Often right beside a cycling path (which is marked with a bicycle symbol)
Where You Can Still Ride
- On shared paths (with bike and pedestrian logos) — yes, but keep speeds low
- On cycling paths — yes, for bicycles and PMDs
- On normal footpaths not marked “Pedestrians Only” — yes, but ≤ 10 km/h
