As PM Lee turns 70, no clear successor in sight - Scythian - 12-02-2022

As Singapore’s PM Lee Hsien Loong turns 70, no clear successor is in sight

Lee signalled his intention to step down before he turned 70 but at the height of the pandemic pledged to stay on to steer the city state into calmer waters
With no ‘stand-out’ successor now, the danger is that the eventual leader ‘will not be seen as a clear choice in the first place’, says an ex-MP

A major problem - it's too expensive and too late to build a runaway for anyone now..

No one can match Heng Swee Keat.

Wish him good health and no time to retire and enjoy money.

At his age who don't want to retire. I am sure he love to but I think nobody want the hot seat.

Well Heng SK was suppose to be successor but he did not want to take up so that leaves job to others. So a plan was in place but derailed

The best and most suitable is Chan Chun Seng...rest are not suitable at all.

Why would the 4G leadership don't want to be the next PM.  The remuneration is over 2 million dollars a year, with a 16K as MP allowance.  Eat cannot finish, it is enough to last his 3 generations, without ever need to work.............

PM Lee is not indispensable

He can leave today, and Singaporeans will easily find a replacement tomorrow.

RE: As PM Lee turns 70, no clear successor in sight - Scythian - 12-02-2022

“If Singapore disappears tomorrow, the world will probably continue on just fine,” said PM Lee of the intrinsic nature of small states.

It proves PM Lee can leave anytime too.
No regrets

That is true, but LHL buey pang sim, to let his PM post to be taken over by someone who is not as capable as him.  Anyway he is not leaving the PAP govt. cos he will still be a senior minister of minister mentor..

Yes or no?

The 39% had been hoping that LOTO Singh would become PM Singh but now they know that his leadership cmi....

Yes.

Just as good.

But they were running the country in different eras and different circumstances.

MM LKY might not have achieved what PM LHL achieved because the former's style would not go down well with today's oppies who'd use online media to attack him.  Last time, he could ban newspaper, but now it is hard with online media....last time there was no such thing as crowdfunding.

PM Lee was dropped from Times 100 rankings of World's  Most Influential Leaders 7 years ago.

How sad, as we know LHL is just a notch behind his father, and the world had unjustifiably ranked him at the bottom of the ratings, it is an unfair measurement by the World's Most Influential leader..........
