14 months after the first vaccination, Biontech and Moderna are still without proper approval - because essential studies are missing. The process is unusual. Doctors and pharmacy experts have questions.
Around 62 million Germans have now been vaccinated, with the preparations mainly being supplied by Moderna and Biontech. However, to date, neither of the mRNA vaccines has been sufficiently researched to meet the standards for proper approval by the European Medicines Agency (EMA). They are still legally in circulation, but only provisionally and for a limited period of time, by means of a limited "conditional approval".
