I watched the video only half way as it is just repeating the same claims the pap made.
One part it says CECA does not give any advantage/preference to Indian Nationals. Under CECA Singapore and India mutually agree to recognise qualifications for many professions for the purpose of working in each country....127(?) professions come under this. Wouldnt this give a big advantage that did not exist before CECA?
Singaporeans can see for themselves the situation before and after CECA.....suppose it is not due to CECA and CECA is just a scapegoat. Then it is due to something else the govt did.
It's like the anti immigration movement in US....maybe the problems people encountered may not be directly be due to immigration. But what is driving it is the emergence of of issues and problems....that are unsolved.
The PAP wasted alot of time to defend CECA. Let's suppose for one moment they are right...just suppose. Then what is causing all these problems and challenges faced by Singaporeans like stress, insecurity, rising costs and a plethora of unhappiness and dissatisfaction with the governance of the country.
It is even harder to solve if it is not due to CECA and baked in the PAP system!

Making video and explanation in parliament do not make the problem goes away.
PAP has to solve the shortage of IT manpower by training more Singaporeans.
For 20 years,PAP has been taking the shortcut by importing PMETs from India.
As long as this problem is not solved,PAP is to be blamed

Everyone is entitled to their views and free to express it. But it is not so simple.
1. In the video it says Singapore has 20+ FTA. ..so my question is why this one is felt by Singaporeans to have so much negative view of ceca....has to be something they see and feel...
2. If not CECA what then is causing all these problems of job insecurity, lack of opportunity stress etc
3. It's very real ...in fact PAP votes has been declining and support for PAP is declining except for a brief recovery the election after LKY passing...
4. More of the same ...keeping same policy directions and staying the course is surest way downhill...

how the ground has been affected and what all in private sectors has seen is not like that.
yes maybe more jobs are created. but the number comming in from any country especially if they are related
needs to be in control. same country in same business no go.

Another idiot statement because Vietnam and Thailand also have, just lesser as they are still developing

The video explained the THEORETICAL benefits of CECA, which I don't disagree. The ACTUAL benefits on the grounds are not evident. The imports from Cecaland are not just "infocomms experts", but also a wide of range of other functions such as HR, finance for which some of them have dubious qualifications in.

There is no right or wrong. It is a matter of how we can balance up the goods and the bads. Take for example, if we think we could save money and be self-sufficient by growing food and vegetable at home, the farmers will curse you.
In this CECA issue, we have the country, home, and us to consider. If we put the country first, we and our home might suffer. The best is we can balance up so that our country, home, and us can be all looked after.
The Communist ideology is for the country to come first. The Western one is for home and us to come first.
For the Government, it is natural to expect them to put the country first. As for many Singaporeans, they might want to put home and us in the first place. As for me, I have been taught to put the country first since I was small. So there is no point arguing with me. By the way, I am never a Communist inclined.

few points for thoughts after watching the video
1. they did not mention how much investment $ the india side invested is SG, while we vested 61B.
2. Lack of talent in the respective field. then why decades ago our education system did not prepare our people to cope with today's need?
3. while we understand and agree that FTA is a win-win for SG. why are Indian national's having a higher employment pass percentage against other national?

Dont judge a book by its cover.
If you are biased in the first place, you will never bother to find out and understand the different systems.
There is no perfect system and normally the human who is the crook who changes or alters the system to suit their own agenda irregardingless it is a communist, socialist or democratic system. All systems are good initially but bad at some point when someone changes the system for their own interest.

If ICT is transferring of employees via Employment Pass, then it is clearly unfettered access. Because Employment Pass has no levies and quotas.
127 Professions does not confer to free pass ? Of course it does. 127 Professions is NOT 127 JOBS.
So what are they arguing about if they have no idea what they are talking.

We had FTAs with many countries and many MNCs had setup shop in Singapore. Why do we not face much problems when these MNCs (mostly from the West) setup shop in Singapore until we had CECA.
We need to know the root cause of the problem.
