Philip Yeo is right some ways ...that is a very small number of very experienced and very qualified people come and help to boot strap is the idea.

Some people said the many from India who come are not real talents. Because when you said that if 50K or 100K of their best come, they can crush many Singaporeans downwards.

For a govt that is so afraid of political competition that it finds all ways and means to eliminate them....to tell us we need to compete and against the competition from foreigners they bring in ...is just ludicrous...

FTAs is a good idea but CECA is the Biggest EVIL of all, endorsed with extra privilege using Employment Pass.

That is why those PA P Ministers dare not talk straight about CECA but mix and confuse themselves with FTA. Even a NTU Grad like Jac Lau cannot differentiate FTA and CECA.

So when we pin -point at CECA, both PAP & Jac will just scream & shout to accuse us of falsifying the advantageous of FTAs.

Sounds similar? YEP. Just like how PAP always confuse themselves with general group of Foreigners when it is FTs in excess in Singapore.

Why should I vote for PAP when they are dishonest?

Thumbs up for Philip Yeo.  You said it right in every context and shared the same views of many Singaporeans.  Most important key words are "poor
management and lack of assimilation".  All those that caused these to happen shd be removed and they are detrimental to the values of graduate Singaporeans. They are the root causes of hardships.

Some CECA does NOT Compliment or workforce, but Replaces us in our own workforce.

This is clearly PAP's mistake for past 10 YEARS.

My understanding of FTA is Free Trade Agreement. Now there's an exchange of labour involved? Isn't that human trading in the very general sense of the word? Any experts to enlighten me?

Heng SK is another sotong.

When the pie is small and not growing, or worse even if the pie is growing 2% but PAP gave away 5% of the jobs, it will definitely jeopardize employment of citizens because EP does not have levies nor quota.

Imagine Singapore as a company A with monopoly over manufacturing of product Z (IT talent).

When company A foresee there is a growth in demand and current production capacity cannot meet demand, it has 2 choices:

1) Add more lines for short term demand (aka increase University intake) or build new plants if new demand will remain or grow (aka new IT focus university)
2) If don't want to add more lines due to whatever reason, another way is to buy from competitor (import talents from other countries) and pass on as your product. Normally this is not recommended since bulk of the money from the new demand is not made by the company A but competitor

Now, if you are the boss of company A, if previously your manager has been using choice 2 for whatever reason, after 1 year, you would probably asked "Why are we still letting our competitor make the earning instead of us earning the money by adding more lines/build new plants"..

Fast track to 1 year later (don't even need 15 years), if your manager still stick with choice 2, then it is time to fire the manager since he/she is not acting of the best interest of the company.

Of course, some might say manager stick to choice 2 because competitor product is better than ours.. If I am the boss, manager lose his/her job immediately because isn't it his/her job to make the best product. If competitor continue to make better product than us, then it is only a matter of time before company A loses it's monopoly to competitor.

This govt is one that will never admit its mistakes, and that's because it's never penalised for it. Only when voters show their displeasure at the ballot box then there'll be an effect. So far, sinkies have shown themselves as a faithless lot, complaining everyday but end of the day still vote for PAP.

RE: CECA failing Singapore? Read Philip Yeo's comment - Ola - 04-09-2021

Remember how incompetent PAP is. They are to be fully blamed for such detrimental impact.

When local SMEs want FWs, PAP slap them with further  tightening of FWs levies and quotas to punish them.

But when big MNC want FTs, PAP said proceed FREELY & EASILY for 127 Professions.

The real problem here is that the 'boss' is not really looking to grow the company, but to enrich himself. Just look at Motorola and HP. Their former CEOs made hell lot of mistakes by selling away their most profitable assets just so that in the short-term it looks good to stakeholders. They took the high salary and bonus and moved on while leaving the companies a shadow of their glory past.

This is very different from the founders who took good care to nurture the companies because they saw them as their babies. Very similar to Singapore now.

He miss out something critical, there must be more middle rank roles for Sg graduates to develop to.

Almost twenty years have gone, how successful is transfer of skill since we cannot name well known local IT company, product, person...
