Probably the demonstrator did not understand that there are different types of extinguisher for different fire. The fire which they have created probably uses liquid gases or cooking oil. The extinguisher will need to use the right one, I think.

The fire extinguisher is water-based type, but the fire is oil based, or kerosene based
