In China, beer was already drunk 9,000 years ago - theold - 17-09-2021

The archaeologists were able to identify seven of the 20 ancient vessels as so-called Hu pots. These long-necked cups were used to drink alcohol in that era .

The beer was made from fermented rice.

Domesticated rice cultivation is dated 10,000 to 6,000 years ago. So a good 9,000 years ago people only just started growing and processing rice plants. Hence, the researchers conclude that given the labor-intensive rice harvesting and processing, the beer was likely a ritually significant drink in Quiaotou.
