VERY. Chinese firms does not lack $ - Getting the RIGHT and REAL Talent is their drive now to internationalise.
Chew himself was hired by Xiaomi boss because of his finance ad investor background to help in the IPO
The reason and timing isn't a surprise as US tries to slow down Chinese successes, esp in the Internet and tech commercial sectors.
That is why we see TikTok, Baidu, Wechat got so politicised in the West..
Chew with Xiaomi boss, Lei Jun (雷军)

TikTok is not listed yet...So I can imagine Chew will go up the Fortune-500 easily if go public...
So everyone is waiting to see where and when TikTok decides to IPO...which is perhaps why Chew was selected to lead the US-based Chinese-owned coy, Still all depends on the attitude of the US gov where the politics of emotion there has gone very anti-China.

Do you know why ?
RE: TikTok CEO - a "Global" Singaporean. - Manthink - 28-12-2022
Will TikTok ended up like Huawei in America?
That any runaway Chinese successful products is seen as a threat and too much for some AMTK liking ?
"....more than 85 million monthly users – nearly 60% of them 16 to 24 years old – TikTok, owned by the Chinese tech company ByteDance, is a raging success in the US. Thousands of young Americans have found not just a community but also stardom on the platform, sometimes building careers worth millions of dollars by landing endorsement deals and qualifying for the app’s monetisation schemes like TikTok Creator Fund."

A large part due to China's actions too. Like the FB and Google Maps, YT not able to use in China.
Was shocked when American colleague genuinely surprised we still visit China without fear geopolitical and covid lockup etc. Usurping South China islands, the optics of XJP/Putin buddy-buddy and SHA 2-3mos lockdown imprisonment are the main causes....

Simple - Chew is not a politician nor is he involved in politics.
The fun part if it is the so-called Democratic champaign in the US who are making TikTok a political issue just because FB, Twitter, YouTube and Instagram cannot compere against a Chinese-origin tech coy.
TikTok is so popular that these Silicon Valley giants have copied the idea that originates from the Chinese

The Chinese does not ban Google, FB etc not because they are US products, but because the coy fail to follow Chinese internet law.
In fact, you can easily access the service over VPN from the Mainland.
In fact, some of the latest US tech had operate in China before and only to stop operation because US gov accused the coy of following Chinese law.
