You have to minus off the debt when you look at savings A person owe bank $2M and put aside 2K every month in his savings... Vs person has zero debt and save $200 a month. When they lose their jobs who is in trouble? RE: 70% of M'sians save Less than S$150 a month. - sgbuffett - 13-04-2023 (13-04-2023, 10:54 AM)Manthink Wrote: Are you confusing good debt with bad ones ? Debt is just debt . Housing debt can turn bad and did so during US financial crisis and Japan 1990s ... My thoughts are rather deeper than such superficial numbers that paint one dimension. No doubt Singaporeans are richer and have more savings given our per capita GDP is 4 times higher than average in Malaysia and 2 times higher than KL. Except for cars and property almost everything else in Malaysia is not lower than half ghe price in Sjngapore. The incurrance of debt for necessities like housing and sometimes car if the family has elderly or disabled means there js no straightforward way to compare as it's not apples to apples. At the end we should solve our own problems instead of trying to feel better comparing ourselves with Malaysia which is a developing country. Retirement adequacy in Singapore is low despite high compulsory savings into CPF. |
