There has been a dispute between Russia and its neighbor Japan over the four southernmost islands of the Kuril Islands since the end of World War II. To date, this conflict has prevented the signing of a peace treaty by both nations.

Reminds me of the Russo Jap war in 1905. The Russian pacific fleet flagship is the Varyag, an old relic from 1983, same vintage as the Moskva sunk by Ukraine. Russia better don't siasuay again.
