Meritocracy is a much misused word.
Go up by connection is meritocracy - cos you know how to cultivate relationships.
PLP to get where you are is meritocracy - it's a skill to know how to please your boss.
Backstabbing others is meritcracy - not easy to backstab, need to be quite unethical to do it.
Every way, whichever way, has some merits, just may not be morally right.
