Main reason is because most of SG casino revenue comes from mainland Chinese high rollers and their junkets.
They won't go to Japan, they will go to Thailand.

sg anticipated this long ago. the two casinos will each pour in 4.5bil but the permission to increase of 3% to 13% of casino space is key to the competition. mbs n rws must be glad that pap granted them exclusitivity thru 2030!

The secret to tourism is not just about casinos, but the IR concept lah. Malaysia, Philippines, Laos and Cambodia already have casinos for a long time. Their casinos haven't done a shitload of good for their economies.
