Jade has different qualities just like diamond.

Almost every Big Mother 大妈 in China (called lau auntie here) knows jade, and what's jade.  The (Singaporean) PG women who migrated to Singapore, almost all of them would have a jade bangle passed down to them by their mother.  However, it is not fashionable among our young zoomer or even yoomer women anymore because they have been converted to a mixture of Western and K-Pop culture.

I am rather surprised your mother didn't tell you more about jade...

Without a huge hinterland like China and an economy that can support a jade industry, our survival depends on commerce, banking and IT.  Making jade products is not our comparative advantage.

There are many things we can do but for survival reasons, we can't. Our climate, soil can even grow durian trees but can we do that?  No, we cannot. We need the land for building HDB flats...  Meanwhile, China can assign Hainan Island to be their durian producing province.  Just giving one example....

Not only jade.  F&B, hotels, healthcare, transport they have their paws in all that are lucrative.  The first two are not earning them much since tourism is not there, but healthcare, transport...oh, they are making tons of money,
