Interesting details about the TITANIC tourist sub design. - sgbuffett - 22-06-2023

Discovery Channel host Josh Gates, who went on a test dive on OceanGate Expedition’s Titan submersible in 2021, called the news of the missing vessel “surreal” and “haunting.”
Gates, who hosts the adventure show "Expedition Unknown," told CNN’s Anderson Cooper Wednesday that he had spent time with OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush and that he knew adventurer, Hamish Harding, both of whom are on the missing vessel.
Gates and his team ultimately decided not to go through with filming a segment about OceanGate's plans for submersible trips to the Titanic wreck because he felt the program wasn't ready.
Quote:“In the course though of going out on Titan, and diving down inside of it, it just became clear to us at that time that there was a alot that needed to be worked out with the sub,” Gates said. "A lot of the systems worked but a lot of them really didn’t. We had issues with thrusters and issues with computer control and things like that. Ultimately, it was a challenging dive."

Gates explained that in 2021 he learned there were four ways for the vessel to shed weight and bring it back up to the surface in the case of an emergency.
There is a computer-controlled weight release, a manual-valve system that injects air into exterior ballast containers, a hydraulic system to drop weights and an ability to detach from the sled attached to the submersible and help move the vessel back to the surface.
“On one hand you have this incredibly innovative, novel design," Gates said. "On the other hand, there are a lot of unknowns.

play with fire, burn by fire.

There are 4 ways to shed weight and surface.

If tye sub did not surface it is likely trapped in something like debris ...and cannot surface.

How come there is no safety line to reel in the sub from the mother ship?

Too far and the line may get entangled with the wreckage and sea

RE: Interesting details about the TITANIC tourist sub design. - Niubee - 22-06-2023

Can naval submarine go to that depth?

RE: Interesting details about the TITANIC tourist sub design. - red3 - 22-06-2023

The safety line remains the best in the past and modern day deep sea diving involving humans and manning such expeditions of short durations. This is not some robotics unmanned drone undersea explorations which the construct is entirely different involving advanced computers and power generation.

As if that the submersible can function like the fantasy megalodon movies and anime making a deepsea underwater camera with enough pressure cabin big enough to hold humans with some submarine-link joystick functions. If so easy, then the WW2 submarines technology can go fly kite, the WW2 kamikaze torpedo submersibles is to be revered.

It is reported at 3800m deep, it is pitch dark. You can't even see your hands. So what's there to see for the Titanic wreckage?

Where got fire? It is play with water, drown by water. That thing probably was crushed like a beer can by the extreme pressure at such depth.    Rolleyes

The youtuber gives a good account of the design and all the kiasu safety on board a military sub missing from this one.

Because of its small size, poison gas detection, fire safety, emergency exit etc are all missing.

If one of electronics components catch fire or burn to produce toxic dukes that alone cab cause death

Don't understand why that siao lang billionaire Hamish Harding and another multi-millionaire Father and son team would risk taking up such a risky venture, knowing that there were several design flaws on that sub which was not certified some more, LOL...:

My guess is he thought that since the Titan sub CEO is onboard, it should be safe LOL.

One road good walk for the 5 of them, especially the 19 year old, must be a trill seeker at such a young age
