" Thaksin returning to face charges and also to convince his daughter's Pheu Thai party to form a new coalition with two military related parties ( 141 + 71 + 40 ) . Only then 250 senators will give their full support. After forming the new government, the PM might request the King to pardon Thaksin to be release from prison. "

I think Thaksin stands a good chance to get a Royal Pardon from the King if his daughter forms the government. This king should be on good term with Thaksin as he was getting financial support for his playboy's activities before his father, King Bhumibol, passed away. 

The thing is with the Army in the coalition, it is just a matter of time his daughter will get coup...

Pheu Thai must agree to amend Article 112 in order to form the government set forth by Move Forward Party.
Removing the article entirely and modifying it are two different things so Thaksin must sit down with them to iron out how MFP want to change.
His daughter is too inexperience in political manupulations so the old man must come in.

Article 112 - A Constitutional Court decision in 2012. Section 112 of Thai Criminal Code currently reads as follows: "Whoever defames, insults or threatens the King, the Queen, the Heir-apparent or the Regent, shall be punished with imprisonment of three to fifteen years."

Thailand's self-exiled former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra plans to return to the country on Aug 10, his daughter said on Wednesday (Jul 26), facing a potential jail term and amid a prolonged political crisis following a May general election.

"Dad is returning on Aug 10 at Don Muang Airport," Paetongtarn Shinawatra said in a social media post, referring to an airport in the capital Bangkok. "This decision to come home is something that dad has seriously spoken about since the beginning of 2022."

Thaksin can seek royal pardon within 24 hours of starting jail time term on his return to Thailand, caretaker Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Kreangam said on Thursday.

According to Wissanu, who is also serving as the caretaker justice minister, the process calls for convicts to submit their written appeal to His Majesty the King for a royal pardon. “But they have to wait for two more years to submit a new appeal if they are not granted a pardon [in their first attempt],” he said.

Wissanu, who is in charge of the government’s legal matters, explained that it is the right of every convict to seek a royal pardon.

Being most votes not equal to majority votes, so need to rope in others to be form a govt.
