A scheme that allows seniors to get paid for simple tasks such as delivering food to other seniors has been expanded to another four active ageing centres, with more expected to come onboard soon.
It was first piloted in January at the Bedok Active Ageing Centre of Thye Hua Kwan Moral Charities (THKMC).
Today, 11 of their centres have joined the scheme and about 50 seniors – who are mostly in their 60s and 70s – are involved.
They have supported nearly 200 beneficiaries and completed more than 22,000 micro-jobs, receiving $1 for every task.
Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat launched the initiative on Monday during the THKMC Bedok Active Ageing Centre’s National Day celebration, held in the neighbourhood fitness park.
Ms Fatimah Kalip, 68, joined the initiative in January.
She works five days a week, delivering food to the elderly in Bedok twice a day. She also checks if they have taken their medication, and get them to sign a form if they have done so.

Should start progressively say 10 cents first. Then as the days go by slowly increase so they got the interest to keep doing it. Of cuz need to cap limit at say $1 per task.

After getting you brainwash in formal education system and then into the rat race, the game doesn't end with a nice retirement. This is because your retirement fund is not enough and social cost is to heavy to bear. To make sure you fend for yourself or die in the process, another rat experiment is necessary. No you go around visiting other rats and hope you find some dead ones and you shock to die as well. Then can clear off the backlog of old uneconomical rats...

It's actually not a bad idea. Would reduce the chance of the elderly dying at home alone without any people knowing. For both the people delivering and receiving the food.

Accidents do happen sometimes, many elderly may look healthy but when work under the hot sun and run around, some may fall down as their legs have no strength, unlike young people…hope garment will cover that under health insurance.
