Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa was interview said in a released Monday said “thousands” of people were joining country’s new army following the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad & dissolution of his military. “I did't mandatory impose any conscription in Syria. Instead opted for voluntary enlistment, today thousands are joining the new Syrian army,” al-Sharaa told “The Rest is Politics” podcast, hosted by Alastair Campbell, a former spokesman for UK leader Tony Blair & Rory Stewart, a ex-Conservative minister.
Earlier, Syrian civil war’s years, experts said a combination of casualties, defections & draft-dodging saw Syria military lose half of its 300,000-strong force. It was propped up by al-Assad allies Russia, Iran & fighters from Iran-backed groups including Lebanon’s Hezbollah.
As support faltered & collapsed in November’s to armed opposition who advance, led by al-Sharaa’s group “Hayat Tahrir al-Sham” (HTS) who lead by Ahmed al-Sharaa who now is Syrian President.
