I feel that Cantonese is more popular than Hokkien in China. Because Cantonese contents like Cantonese Songs is not only sing in Cantonese Cities or Cantonese Channel. Many Non-Cantonese cities or Non-Cantonese channel also sing Cantonese songs and the Non-Cantonese People will also speak some Cantonese. While for Hokkien/Hokkien songs you can only hear it in China Hokkien cities. For Hokkien song you can only hear it in those China Hokkien variety show or China Hokkien channel.
