Here's a breakdown of the summary, core point, and key points:

Summary:

The article discusses the experiences of Singaporeans, highlighted by an individual jobless since May 2024, navigating the current job market. It compiles various opinions from online users regarding the challenges faced by job seekers, potential reasons for the difficulty in finding employment, and suggestions for improvement. The comments reflect concerns about ageism, competition from foreign workers, unrealistic employer expectations, and the need for skills upgrading.

Core Point:

The core point is that many Singaporeans perceive the job market as challenging and competitive, with systemic issues hindering their ability to secure employment, despite their efforts.

Key Points:

Individual Experience as a Catalyst: The article uses the specific situation of someone unemployed since May 2024 to trigger a broader conversation about the job market.

Ageism is a Concern: Many commenters believe ageism is a significant barrier, with older workers finding it particularly difficult to compete with younger candidates.

Competition from Foreign Workers: Some commenters express concern that the influx of foreign workers contributes to the difficulty in finding jobs, potentially driving down wages.

Unrealistic Employer Expectations: There's a sentiment that employers have increasingly demanding requirements, seeking candidates with specific skill sets and experience levels that are hard to meet.

Skills Gap and Need for Upskilling: The importance of continuous learning and skills upgrading is emphasized, particularly in adapting to the evolving demands of the job market.

Government Support and Policies: Some comments touch upon the role of government policies in supporting local job seekers and addressing the challenges they face.

Discouragement and Mental Health: The article subtly hints at the emotional toll that prolonged job searching can take on individuals.

Looks like a social media complaining type of worker. Better don't touch this type of job seeker even with a 10 foot pole. Think she will be more employable if she stops her bad habit of going to social media to open her loud speaker.

After 6 months, this person will be considered no longer interested in working or retired by the SG powers that be. This keeps the unemployment stats looking rosy.

Most displaced workers probably do not qualify for any financial assistance from the SG authorities, so the likelihood of them going under the radar is high.

This is treason! How can foreigners be favoured over S'poreans?

WSG Career Counsellors told the whole class

NEVER apply for jobs via Recruitment Agencies

They have extra 7 Filters to sieve out resumes

ie age, history gap, degree type, location . . .

Why do we need 5 Mayors and 80 PAP Ministers?

Not viable over long term. No CPF contributions. No medical benefits. No annual leave..
Will develop health issues in the long run sitting behind the wheels over many hours. Chances of getting into car accidents too. Stress issues .

After some time, PHV drivers and their families will start to believe that they are bona fide car owners in SG. I came across a low SES family taking their own sweet time pumping petrol in JB. They took a long time to leave as the driver's wife was feeding their son, who looked to be about 5 years old, even after paying for their gasoline. Both parents didn't seem to give a fu-k that there was a long queue of cars waiting to top up at that station.

The longer a former PME drives a PHV, the more unemployable he will become in any other job.

They are living in their make believe world of their own. Car doesn’t belong to them. Have to pay for daily rental , petrol costs etc.

It’s stressful for future generations of younger Singaporeans. No job security, nothing to look forward to. Costs of living soaring upwards with lower standards of living. Stress level shooting skywards as well.
