A suspected commander of Russian troops in Bucha has been named by Ukrainian sources, as more evidence of massacred civilians emerges from the city.

Lt Colonel Azatbek Omurbekov leads the 64th Separate Motorised Rifle Brigade, which occupied the city in the Kyiv region.

He is said to have overseen atrocities in the region, including local women and children being raped and shot.

Oleksiy Arestovych, an adviser to Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky, said scores of dead civilians were found on the streets of Bucha and the Kyiv suburbs of Irpin and Hostomel.

In what looked like a ‘scene from a horror movie’, he said bodies showed evidence of being tortured, raped and burned.

Authorities are documenting more and more evidence as Ukraine’s military reclaims territory and discovers indications brutal executions.

This adds to their case of prosecuting Russian officials for war crimes, but Moscow still denies accusations of atrocities.
