Among the Chinese ships operating in the area are the Zhong Gu Ji Lin and Zhong Gu Shan Dong, both operating under the Chinese flag. Ship-tracking websites show the Zhong Gu Shan Dong came from the Mediterranean through the Suez Canal in late December, after many other lines had abandoned the area.
Both vessels earlier this week were listed on the website of Qingdao-based Transfar Shipping, which describes itself as “an emerging player in the transpacific market”, as part of its fleet list. However, Transfar on Friday said it had stopped operating the ships in February 2023 and did not know which company was operating them now.
