Why China Might Beat the U.S. in next human Moon landing
#1
Cool

On March 24 2024, the Chinese Earth-Moon Queqiao-2 satellite entered lunar orbit, where it will begin coordinating an anticipated growth in communications traffic coming from the surface of the moon. Later this year in 2024, the Chinese space agency will use their new radio infrastructure to support Chang’e-6 mission, the first-ever mission to return samples from the lunar far side....Part of what makes China so formidable a force in reaching the moon is its command and control economy and policy-making. NASA’s objectives often change with every new occupant of the Oval Office China is taking its time. “...The Chinese are very dedicated to moving in the direction of a lunar presence and have really worked hard in the last two decades to prepare for this.”

It's no longer a question of why.

It's when.

The count down to China's manned landing on the Moon before 2030 has started with successful insertion of 2nd relay satellite around the Moon orbit last week. Cool

Queqiao-2 will be used as a communications bridge between the ground operations on earth and upcoming lunar probe missions on the far side of the moon until at least 2030.

Not sure if being the 2nd nation to send a person to the surface if the moon after 50+yrs is that important a land mark.

In this day and.age we should send an AI based robot to wonder the moon surface.....

I, being poor, have only my dreams; I have spread my dreams under your feet; Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.

Some pple asked that same quesiton - Why bothered ?

Simple - because the 1st nation that landed man on Moon now cannot land a probe properly 50+ years later.... Big Grin

Thailand joins China-led ILRS Moon Base initiative  Big Grin

China and Thailand signed MoU to work on International Lunar Research Station (ILRS). The arrangement will allow engineers and scientists from both sides to organize expert teams to conduct research spanning science, engineering and international cooperation, and form a cooperation plan.  Thailand becomes the ninth country to join the ILRS. China and Russia formally announced the joint project in St. Petersburg, Russia, in June 2021. Venezuela, Pakistan, Azerbaijan, Belarus, South Africa and Egypt signed up during 2023.
