The Chinese tradition is that elders are not supposed to be at the wake or send off the younger ones if I don't recall wrongly. She had no kids so her sending off is rightly carried out by her nephews.

If memory serves me right what I saw was some people in black clothes seated in an open-air vehicle waving to us. However the vehicle and the cortege moved quickly in tandem with traffic, who they were I have no idea [could be 3rd generation, could be extended family etc].
