$327 for a tooth extraction....
#1

Was told by my SIL this afternoon that her Myanmar maid had a toothache recently.

She had the tooth extracted, given 5 days of antibiotics .
And the shocking news ....the charge was $327 !!

If this is not daylight robbery, what is?

Depends.

If the tooth broke and part of the tooth is still inside, then a simple operation is performed and it will cost around $800. Then the patient is given 5 days MC.

If the tooth came out intact, no operation is needed and it cost around $80. No MC is needed

5 days normally is wisdom tooth extraction.
Probably need to cut the tooth into 3pcs due to the tooth hooked in the wrong direction and did not grow properly. Not able to remove by simple pulling extraction.

Operation normally takes about 45 mins to an hour to cut the tooth into 3pcs. Normal pulling extraction only takes 2 to 3mins.

The dentist will warn you in advance if normal extraction cannot pull out the tooth will go for operation.

There is now only subsidised dental at polyclinics and very few slots. Maids of course cannot be treated there.

As a result dental is very costly in Singapore especially of you need urgent treatment.
